Michelle is a long time writer, newly published author. Her first book, Mr. Mingle's Mustache, is a fun children's book with a great message. Professor Piggly's Plant is the second book in the world of Mr. Mingle.
Though Michelle's love of writing began with poetry, these stories are her favorites. Professor Piggly is Mr. Mingle's pet pig. The pig does not like to be without his owner, but when Mr. Mingle buys him a plant to keep him company, he may have bitten off more than he can chew.

These pictures look like they are from far away. These pictures are real. The fear of the flood, absorbing the devastation, putting things together without power to assist, and losing so much is real.
Since I moved here in 2015 I have seen La Farge and surrounding area communities come together in many ways. When someone is in need there is always lots of someones who help.
When my own family was driving out of the flooded area in the rain Tuesday evening, my youngest daughter says "It sounds like the raindrops are dancing." It was a smile in our despair. A new way to look at a scary situation. The added inspiration to my poem. Thank you to Angie Mithum-Egge, Cathy St John, Annika J. Olson, Heather McCauley, and Aaron N Roni Appleman for allowing me to use your amazing photos.

I saw today that people are falsely asking for funds as if they were here, as if they lost, as if they went through all the hurt. If you would like to help there are real organizations that will get monetary or other donations (cleaning, clothes, food), as well as volunteer help. Here are a few and if you know more please put in comments:
Professor Piggly's Plant
Like Mr. Mingle, Professor Piggly was inspired by a childhood neighbor. Growing up in the 1980's it was common to know your neighbors well. This neighbor was a retired teacher who grew cacti on her front stoop. She was very giving and always had one waiting to give away. It was like she had a magical green thumb.
This story was inspired by Michelle's childhood neighbor. The neighbor was an older gentleman who lived alone and always worked in his yard. He was very friendly to the neighborhood children and always had something interesting to share.
Good question! There are several stories in the works. One that has been brewing for a while is not as light hearted as my first two books. In 2012 I lost my brother to cancer. I remember being 8 months pregnant with twins, already hormonal and overly emotional, and then having to tell my 5-year old son. I will never forget the look he had on his face, not because his uncle had passed away, but because his mom was an emotional wreck. My next hopeful story will be for families that need to let their children know that grown ups cry sometimes, and that is okay.
